Baritone, Bridging the Gap
Edinburgh-born baritone Jack Harris began his choral career as a Choral Scholar at Morningside Parish Church under Morley Whitehead. Following four years as a Choral Scholar – and, latterly, a Lay Clerk – with the world-renowned Choir of King’s College, Cambridge under Daniel Hyde, he has returned to Edinburgh as Bass Lay Clerk at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, Edinburgh under Duncan Ferguson.
Alongside extensive choral experience, Jack has enjoyed a variety of solo opportunities on the concert platform. His recent highlights include: Duruflé Requiem (Choir of King’s College, Cambridge); Vaughan-Williams Five Mystical Songs (Cambridge University Orchestra and Choir of King’s College, Cambridge); Brahms Ein Deutches Requiem (Cambridge University Orchestra); Mozart Vesperae Solennes de Confessore (Academy of Ancient Music); Bach Ich Habe Genug (King’s College Orchestra); Muhly The Street –World Premiere (Choir of King’s College, Cambridge and Parker Ramsay).
Jack has also been involved in numerous recording projects. He was a soloist on the recording of ‘Easter from Kings’ (BBC Two, 2023); as well as on the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge’s recent disc recording, The Street. Whilst at Cambridge he took part in several international tours, with highlights including sold-out performances at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and the Sydney Opera House.
Jack is equally at home on the operatic and recital stages. Recent highlights include: Glenesk-Mortimer Tam O Shanter (St Andrew Orchestra); Somnus, Handel Semele (Cambridge University Opera Society); Antonio, Mozart Le Nozze di Figaro (Trinity College Music Society); Fergus, Cunningham Fergus of Galloway (Innerpeffray Singers).
Jack is a frequent recitalist, performing recitals in Edinburgh, Cambridge and London. He was the Oxford and Cambridge Club’s Artist in Residence for 2023/24 after winning their prestigious Music Prize, giving a recital of Vaughan-Williams in August 2023. He will return next year to perform a programme including Musgrave Five Songs for Spring, Quilter Julia, and Ravel Don Quichotte à Dulcinée.
Jack is delighted to be joining the Dunedin Consort this year as one of their ‘Bridging the Gap’ Young Artists, and is looking forward to performing alongside the group whilst benefitting from their mentorship and guidance.
