Edward Caswell

Edward Caswell is a versatile and widely respected choral conductor. Working throughout the UK and Europe he has established a reputation for approaching choral conducting from a singer’s point of view.

Since 2008 he has been a regular guest with Netherlands Radio Choir, conducting them a cappella and preparing them for concerts and recordings with Kenneth Montgomery, Riccardo Chailly, Bernard Haitink and Daniele Gatti. Last season he prepared them for performances of The Gospel According to the Other Mary by John Adams under Markus Stenz in Strasbourg and Cologne. Also last season he prepared NDR Chor and MDR Rundfunkchor for performances of Bach’s Matthäus-Passion in the version by Mendelssohn with the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester under Trevor Pinnock.

Edward is a regular chorus master with Collegium Vocale Gent and was involved in their preparation for the recent Janacek recording which won the Preis der Deutschen Schalplatten Kritik.

In 2013 he founded Cromarty Youth Opera in his home in Scotland and in August 2016 he led the company in their fourth fully staged opera, Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell.

This season Edward prepares Netherlands Radio Choir for the world premiere of Requiem for Hieronymus Bosch by Detlev Glanert with KCO under Markus Stenz, and Netherlands Chamber Choir for Weihnachts-Oratorium IV-VI also with KCO under Trevor Pinnock.

In September Edward makes his conducting debut with the Flemish Radio Choir in a programme of music by Vaughan Williams, MacMillan, Tavener, Howells and Rudi Tas with cellist Pieter Wispelwey, and in December conducts performances of Bach’s Mass in B minor with the Dudok Ensemble in The Netherlands.

In 2017 Edward returns to Leipzig first to prepare MDR Rundfunkchor for Haydn’s Die sieben letzten Worte under Michael Francis, and later to prepare Dresdner Kammerchor and Gewandhauschor for Haydn’s Die Jahreszeiten with Gewandhausorchester under Trevor Pinnock.
