Meg Bragle
American born mezzo-soprano Meg Bragle began her musical training as a violinist. She attended the University of Michigan as a double major in violin and voice performance before earning a Bachelor of Musical Arts degree in Voice Performance and English. She also completed a Master’s degree in Choral Conducting from Michigan State University.
During her studies, she was awarded the University of Michigan McIntosh Voice Scholarship and won the annual Michigan State University Concerto Competition. Subsequently, she has been the recipient of the First Young American Singer Competition hosted by the American Bach Society and the Bethlehem Bach Festival, and was awarded an Adams Fellowship to the Carmel Bach Festival.
On the concert platform she has sung with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the Memphis Symphony, the Charlotte Symphony, the San Antonio Symphony, the North Carolina and Canton Symphonies, Symphony Nova Scotia, Apollo’s Fire, Dallas Bach Society, Seattle Baroque, Tempesta di Mare, the Bach Choir of Bethlehem and has collaborated with the Mark Morris Dance Group in music by Stephen Foster and Antonio Vivaldi. This season she will debut with the Dunedin Consort, Calgary Philharmonic, Vancouver Chamber Choir, and Sinfonia New York.
Her opera appearances have included the roles of Dido and the Sorceress in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Speranza in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, Amastre in Handel’s Serse, Ippolita in Cavalli’s Elena, Elpina in Vivaldi’s La Fida Ninfa, and will add Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina to her repertoire this season.
Ms. Bragle has recorded Mozart’s Requeim with Apollo’s Fire (Koch), Cozzolani’s Vespro della Beata Vergine and Messa Paschale with Magnificat (Musica Omnia), Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo and Vespro della Beata Vergine with Apollo’s Fire (Eclectra), and Toby Twining’s Chrysalid Requiem (Cantaloupe Music).
